KinesioTape works through real, well-documented mechanisms — but a lot of taping education never explains those mechanisms clearly enough for practitioners to reason about their own application choices. This class closes that gap: the physiology behind the tape, how to apply it well, and how to think through when it belongs in a treatment plan.
What the tape is actually doing
Applied correctly, KinesioTape lifts the skin microscopically, changing the mechanical load on the tissue underneath and continuously stimulating cutaneous mechanoreceptors — including the C-tactile afferents that play a central role in how touch gets processed by the nervous system. This class grounds taping technique in that physiology directly, including current research into these same afferent pathways, so that direction, tension, and placement are choices you can explain, not just steps you've memorized.
Where it fits your practice
Taping is taught here as an extension of the hands-on assessment and treatment skills you already have. You're using the same palpation and clinical observation you already rely on to decide where and how tape gets applied — the tape then extends that work after the client leaves your care. The contraindications are the ones you already know how to screen for: malignancy, open wounds, active infection, deep vein thrombosis, and fragile or compromised skin.
What you'll actually do
This is a hands-on foundations class, start to finish — real application technique, contraindication screening, and the clinical reasoning behind when taping adds value to a treatment plan. Materials are included: you leave with tape in hand, not just notes.
Prerequisites
In order to attend a Kinesio Taping seminar, each attendee must meet all of the following criteria:
1. Have completed 80 course hours of anatomy and physiology
2. Have a working knowledge of the musculoskeletal system
3. Be able to do assessments by evaluating and/or diagnosing injuries and conditions
4. Achieved or is a student in their junior or senior year (transcripts must be provided) working towards one or more of the following credentials:

Learning Outcomes
Explain the physiological mechanism of KinesioTape application, including its effect on cutaneous mechanoreceptors and the skin's mechanical relationship to underlying tissue.
Select appropriate tape tension, direction, and cut for a given application site based on the intended treatment goal.
Screen a client for contraindications to taping, including malignancy, open wounds, active infection, deep vein thrombosis, and fragile or compromised skin.
Apply foundational KinesioTape techniques correctly to a treatment area, demonstrating proper skin preparation, tape handling, and adhesion technique.
Determine whether taping is an appropriate addition to a given treatment plan, integrating it with existing assessment and manual therapy skills rather than applying it as a standalone protocol.
